Springfield has been my home for the past three years and we won't be leaving anytime soon. My husband and I love the community, the mix of new construction and historic homes, the location, and our neighbors. Everyone looks out for each other in my 'hood and there is plenty to do to keep busy and have fun! Listed below are a few of my favorite spots in Springfield that everyone should know about.
EAT: Uptown Kitchen and Bar- This local restaurant is located on Main Street and lucky for me is in walking distance from our home. It's farm to table approach, inviting staff, and family friendly feel constantly bring us back for more. Stop by for happy hour to enjoy a Clover Club cocktail, or dinner for the best chicken pot pie of your life, and be sure to go for brunch- the smoked salmon benedict gets me every time.
DRINK: My favorite place to grab a glass of wine is my porch, or a neighbors. One of the perks of living in Springfield is that almost every home has a porch, or two, or three. There is no better view than overlooking the park and downtown while the sun sets. Take a walk through Springfield and you are sure to find someone enjoying the outdoors that would be happy to have you join them. If you'd rather hang out a local bar though, look no further than The Walnut Inn. Want to play pool, darts, or listen to local music while casually hanging out with your neighbors? This is your place. Everyone here is friendly and ready to share a beer and conversation.
PLAY: Klutho Park is a hidden gem located on the west side of Springfield. It offers disc golf, a baseball field, and community events all year long. It's the perfect place to bring kids, dogs, or just yourself for a walk, picnic, and some fresh air!
SHOP: Have I mentioned that we have a great sense of community? Another thing I love about this place is our online yard sale. Instead of throwing things out, this is a place to sell, trade, or give away anything old or new! It's also a great way to meet your neighbors. And sorry, you have to live in Springfield to be a part of this group.
CAFFEINATE: After being a Friends fan for years, I'm a firm believer that every community needs a local coffee shop and we are lucky to have one of these in the heart of Springfield. Three Layers Cafe is a coffee shop where you can sit indoors and work, relax with friends on the couch, or sit in their fenced in back yard and feed the local, friendly restaurant bunnies. They also have a wine cellar in the back if you are looking for another place in the area to grab a drink, open mic nights, and live music!
Overall, Springfield has everything my family needs and we are very happy with our neighborhood. There are new restaurants, shops, and offices popping up all the time in our area and we are happy with the progress our community has made. Of course, it's always nice to venture out and explore the rest of Jacksonville, which we frequently do, but we always love coming home.
